Notes:  Growing up I think that my parents did their best as did my local church to instill in me our shared Catholic faith, its teachings and traditions.  However, what was available was limited at best.  Which resulted in, what I feel, only a basic/cursory formation and a lack of understanding of what the Catholic Church is and represents.  Even the most basics of the Holy Mass were not fully taught.  What a great misfortune!

I have have found it very insightful and inspiring.  Even if you have moved away from the Catholic Church, I think that this podcast offers something to all Christians.  I hope that you will give it a listen.

The Divine Office is the means by which the Church fulfills the Scriptural teaching to pray without ceasing; the prayers of the hours are the wheels on which the inner life of Christians run. The center of the Divine Office is the Psalter, which is the summary of the entire Bible prayed and sung. In this course the students will examine the historical context in which this lifeblood of liturgical prayer was formed. Different forms will be discussed, including the Roman Breviary, the Monastic Diurnal, the present Liturgy of the Hours, and the Byzantine canonical hours, with emphasis on our transformation through this foundational expression of prayer.
